Web designers, being creative individuals, are known for being quite messy and unorganized – how often have you wasted valuable minutes searching for items amongst the clutter on your desk? All of this wasted time can really add up, so it is recommended that designers work at setting up the best and most productive work environment that they can.

What materials are important to your work?

As a designer, it is likely that you will use your computer and your printer on a daily basis. You might also frequently use some speakers, a scanner, a lamp, an iPod dock, pens, paper and a multitude of other tools. Set these items aside and organise your workspace around them.

What are your ‘spheres of importance’?

Basically, this involves you pinpointing the most important tool for your work (in this case, probably the computer) and placing it central on your desk. You can then work out what you use second most, third most and so on, placing these items in their relevant spheres as they radiate out from your computer.

What about your virtual workspace?

You should connect s well as organizing your desk in a way that promotes a more productive work flow, you should do the same with your computer. Often, web designers try to layout their desktops in a minimalist design or in a way that they have heard other designers do. Forget this – set up your desktop in a way that works for you.
